Sexual Harassment Claims Forces Steve Wynn to Resign
A story about the allegations of sexual harassment against Steve Wynn was published by the Wall Street Journal. According to the story, female staff at the Wynn Resort reported this sexual harassment by the casino mogul and said it is something that spans over decades.
Since the story broke, Mr Wynn has denied the allegations. However, he has handed in his resignation to the board at Wynn resorts. They were reluctant to accept the letter of resignation. Yet, they had to do so.
Steve Wynn has stepped down as the company’s chairman and CEO. He will remain as its main shareholder. Matt Maddox, Wynn Resorts’ president, has been appointed as the CEO and Boone Wayson as the non-executive chairman.
Sexual Harassment Allegations
According to a report by the Las Vegas Review-Journal, one of their reporters interviewed two cocktail waiters at the Mirage which at the time was owned by Wynn. They told the reporter that waitresses at the casino were sent to high roller villas to entertain the customers’ sexual needs.
As compensation one of the waitresses claimed that she got $1k to $5k from each client. The investigation had started in 1998 when about 11 waitresses at the Mirage Casino filed a lawsuit. At the time, the servers were complaining about the policy that the casino had that stipulates that the female employees are not supposed to gain weight of more than six pounds.
In one instance, Earlene Wiggins who was one of the employees at the Mirage Casino, claims that she had to sleep with Steve Wynn for job security.
$7.5 Million Settlement for Sexual Harassment
This is another bombshell that comes from the report made by the Wall Street Journal that Wynn Resorts paid a settlement to a manicurist. The manicurist claimed that Steve Wynn forced her into having sex with him in his office.
Steve Wynn Investigations
Currently, this matter is being investigated in three different places, Massachusetts, Macau and Nevada. In his statement, Mr Wynn has said that this is negative publicity and judgement is made without the consideration of facts.
Massachusetts will continue with their investigation despite Mr Wynn’s resignation.
